APPEARANCE,By all means, Calypso is not the most unique of felines out there and yet her appearance is something that sets her apart from the majority of the other quadrupeds that find their homes in the reserve - as such she tends to consider it a bit of a curse. Though one would expect the beautifully golden coat with splotches of blended rosettes and stripes, she has no such pattern to her name but bleak dark fur which swallows the distinctive markings to the point that they are not clearly visible and are instead hazy blotches under a mist of black. Despite this, her pelt holds a beautiful effervescent sheen that seems to make up for the lack of such design. Though she has lost the beneficial camouflage that aids her in blending with the savanna where she prowls, the deep tint to her fur has helped in becoming quite the nighttime hunter, and for that she is grateful.
And yet it is to be said that, despite the somewhat alien color to her fur, Calypso is everything a serval is supposed to be. While not necessarily tall and actually quite petite by the standards of her species at nineteen inches, she has the same long legs and slender body that should be possessed. She is neither uncomfortable nor clumsy in her own body and in fact holds herself with a grace that almost makes it possible for her odd appearance to be dismissed. Her body shape is lithe and streamlined, enabling her to run fast and move fluidly rather than overwhelm another with brute strength - not that she'd ever fight, of course. Even from a first glance it is easy to determine that Calypso is undeniably female, adhering to the softer curves, small paws and generally less cumbersome than many of the opposite gender tend to be.
Her face, if anything, could be called pretty, though it is really in a more subtle manner than an outward beauty. Simply put, Calypso's charm comes from her smile and from her eyes. Her face is very much rounded (maybe even a little broad) and yet it seems to suit her while the large ears complete the picture. However, what makes her appearance striking is not her oddly colored fur but the way in which her eyes stand out. Though they are not entirely dashing or an unnatural color, her pale green irises simply bring the picture of oddity together and make her seem much more approachable, their edges always smilingly crinkled.
At the very least, the black cat superstitions don't apply to this girl, despite the many differing reactions she may have to sit through.
PERSONALITY,Many of the little quirks and idiosyncrasies of Calypo's personality are mainly attributed to both her past and the circumstances in which she finds her life. First and foremost, it is easy to deduce that this serval, though gentle, is actually rather reserved; though not to the point of being cripplingly shy. In fact, this trait of hers only seems to pop up in groups larger than two - because she had been brought up having her opinions always shared (she's more of a sheep, really) and consequentially spoken, she does not withhold information because she is self-conscious but rather because she knows it will pop up sooner or later. Certainly, she is very self-conscious, even defensive, about her appearance but she doesn't often let the gawks stop her from enjoying life. Despite this, she remains friendly, willing to strike up a conversation with others and genuinely interested in meeting more people and their welfare.
It is in this manner that Calypso often comes across as a feline who is naive, despite being knowledgeable - and while this may be true, it is only because she tends to search for the best in people. Even so, she is a bit of a pessimist when it comes to actively socializing and easily carries a grudge if someone deigns to snap at her the wrong way. She is, after all, a big sister, and though she is far from being maternal Calypso does have strong morals which, when broken, can irk her beyond belief. Homely and assertive, she is the kind of character who would go out of her way to aid someone, or at the very least take time to talk to them, as awkward as she can be in that regard. She is a person who often fumbles and can come across as unintentionally offensive - she is not the most wordy or eloquent of cats and is clumsy with her tongue, intending to compliment another and yet insulting them.
Calypso floats through life and handles it with a gentility that almost belies her predatory nature - ironically, she finds no guilt when it comes to killing and its often surprising that she can do as such so well. Never violent and actually rather flighty, she would rather throw in the white towel rather than put up a fight and while she is infinitely loyal, she is better suited with soothing words rather than being overly protective over the people she loves. Enthusiastic and, true to her nature, a tad mischievous with a wry humor that's almost unexpected of her, Calypso is what could only be described as entirely normal and can only thank the gods that there has never been such a horrible situation in her life that would cause her view on things to distort beyond repair.
FIRST IMPRESSION, Gentle and perhaps a bit of a nag, but it's all in good fun.
HISTORY,Calypso's history has never been entirely too dramatic and that suits her tastes just fine. Born to an unnaturally large litter for a serval family, she found herself comfortably in the middle. Though she was taken care of with as much love and care as her siblings, she was always the kit to simply sit at the side and observe rather than stress her mother out by being rebellious. Even when growing up to leave she was rather soft-spoken and, in fact, remained close to her mother (or at the very least in her territory) for close to four years, helping her bring up the litters that followed and afraid of the Independence and expectations that came with leaving home. Eventually, she was forced out and found she didn't worry as much as before. She's guided mostly by instinct, these days.
